Edmund was born to Beacon and So Lai Kam Yeh, on March 12, 1929, in Hong Kong. He grew up in the International Concession in Shanghai and was educated in an English speaking school. He was well educated and had an insatiable thirst for learning. Through hard work and persistence, he overcame insurmountable odds to become an airline pilot. Edmund was a captain for over 40 years and travelled the world, flying some of the most sophisticated aircrafts. He also loved motorcycles and enjoyed scuba diving, golf, tennis, jogging, eating, and studying languages. He was fluent in English, Shanghainese, Mandarin, and Cantonese, and he could speak French, German, Arabic, Japanese, Korean, Vietnamese, and Thai.
Edmund is survived by his former wife, Diana So, his 6 children, Judy, Kim, Michael, Kingsley, Paul and Mabel; and his 6 grandchildren, Natalin, Nicoline, Kevin, Kelly, Ashley, and Chelsea. In addition, Edmund is survived by his brother Joe, sister Dora, and cousin Yankee.
Edmund was a devoted family man, a loving father, a loyal and kind-hearted person, and was very generous with his time and resources. He was always thinking of ways to improve the lives of his family, to give his children a good education, to help them buy homes, and to teach them valuable life lessons. He enjoyed travelling with his family to exciting places, and many beautiful memories and experiences were created. He will be truly missed and be forever in our hearts.
A memorial service will be held for Edmund on Monday, March 11, 2024 at 10:00 am at Glenhaven Memorial Chapel, 1835 East Hastings Street, Vancouver, British Columbia. Following the memorial service will be an inurnment at 12:00 pm at Ocean View Burial Park, 4000 Imperial Street, Burnaby, British Columbia.
