(Barbara) Diane Macnair (née Greenall) was born on April 10, 1941 in New Westminster, British Columbia, and passed away on September 25, 2023 in Vancouver, British Columbia, at the age of 82 years.
Diane will be remembered by her family as a tower of love and strength. From navigating life as a single mother to three unruly boys to living with chronic illness for half of her adult life, nothing slowed her down. She would never let anyone down and was always there for family and friends. So smart, so competent, so resilient, so warm and welcoming. She was the kind of person that would fly into action whenever a friend or family member needed help or a patient ear.
Diane took this same compassion into her professional career. As a social worker working with adults with disabilities and later in the corrections system she was always focused on people. She gave unselfishly of herself and touched many lives.
In one of her final moments she was looking into the eyes of her youngest grandchild. Her eyes lit up, and a huge smile and heart full of joy emanated from her body that had been completely ravaged by over 20 years of Parkinson’s. Her final act of love, in a life full of love.
Diane is predeceased by her mother Margaret, her father Jack, and her brother Martin. She is survived by her children Randal (Lisa), Jason (Lee Su-Feh), and Galen (Holly); grandchildren Wylin, Mira, Kieran, Elliott and Freya; her siblings Sharon (Wayne), Peter (Valerie) and Gordon (Marilyn); as well as many loving cousins, family and friends.
Diane’s memorial will be held at 11am on Friday October 6 at UBC Botanical Gardens, 6804 SW Marine Drive, Vancouver. The gardens are open to guests at 10am and we will begin gathering at 10:30am. A light lunch will follow.
