Derek Ivan Meares

Derek was born in Calcutta, India on Sept. 13, 1942 & immigrated to Vancouver, BC Canada at the age of 5. Derek grew up in Kitsilano, where he found his high school sweetheart Janet. They married in 1963 and had two daughters.

Derek was a salesman at Finning Tractor. He was transferred to Prince George, BC in 1975 and moved back to Kerrisdale in Vancouver in 1987.

Derek was an avid fisherman, pool shark (Snooker) and golfer. He loved curry and coffee! He kept close ties with his large family and kept countless friends close. Derek’s laughter can still be heard in the hearts of everyone who knew and loved him.

Derek is reunited with his beautiful and recently departed wife Janet in Paradise.

Survived by his adoring sisters Colleen Bonner, Patricia (Steve) Ewart, and Lesley Knippelberg.

Devoted Dad to Kathleen (Frank) Blackstock & Jennifer (Andrew) Thornley.

Beloved ‘BooBoo’ to Janine Stone, Derek Stone, Jackson Thornley and Carson Thornley

Proud Great Grandpa to Bryson Stone and Sterling Stone

Derek’s memory will be cherished by his entire extended family and dear friends.

Predeceased by his precious wife Janet (nee Scott) , parents Clifford & Dorothy “Dolly” (nee Murtough) Meares, Brothers in law Claire Bonner and Lou Knippelberg

Grateful for Dr. Smrke, Dr. Bakonyi, Sheena, Alexia, Chloe and Carlie

A Celebration of Life for Derek and Janet will be held in the spring.
