HARWOOD, Christopher Ryan of Vancouver, passed away on Friday, September 3rd surrounded by family. He is survived by his loving wife and partner of 5 years, Kumiko, parents Albert of Edmonton and Dianne of Calgary, and siblings Kelley (Adam), Geneva (Asad and nephews Raza & Arlo) and Thomas (Jodie), as well as his aunt, uncle, cousins, and other extended family.
Chris was born in Saskatoon, Saskatchewan on September 22, 1980, and grew up east of Edmonton, Alberta. Chris was a staunch NDP supporter and sometimes candidate, running in three elections. In 2005 he moved to Vancouver, British Columbia to enjoy the west coast lifestyle and political landscape. Chris was a proud Coast Mountain Bus Company driver and Unifor Union supporter throughout his entire 10-year career with the company.
There will be an open casket viewing from 6pm to 8pm on September 10 at Hamilton Harron Funeral Home at 5390 Fraser Street, Vancouver, BC, as well as another viewing on September 11th from 11am-12pm which will be followed by a Celebration of Life from 12pm-1pm. Due to COVID restrictions the Celebration of Life has a limited seating capacity; however, a reception will follow at Scandinavian Community Centre at 6540 Thomas Street, Burnaby, BC from 2pm onwards, where there will be a large outdoor space to gather as well as the hall.
Attendees are asked to please wear vibrant colours and come equipped with funny stories and happy memories of Chris to share. Please also be sure to wear a mask indoors.
In lieu of flowers, Chris would have wanted everyone to involve themselves in the politics that shape their lives, and to get out and vote. Any donations can be made to the Brain Tumour Foundation of Canada.
