David Lee "Dave" Mumper passed away on the evening of the 25th of February, 2012. He had lived in Chatsworth for nearly 49 years, since October of 1963. Dave was born the yougest of three boys on January 24,1930 in Portsmouth, Ohio, to William Earl and Harriet May Mumper. His parents and two brothers, Bill and Charles, predeceased him.
Dave served in the Army during the Korean War- he was stationed in Germany and was a radio opertator. After the service he went to West Virginia University to study engineering. He graduated with a B.S. in June of 1959 and married Diane Cole of Fairmont, West Virginia, shortly thereafter. The couple then moved to Southern California so that Dave could pursue a Master's Degree and work at Hughes Aircraft.
Dave was an avid golfer, backpacker,camper,cross-country skier, runner,and all-around fun guy. He loved the outdoors and would take the whole family on 3-week camping trips throughout the Western United States, and Canada.
The first time he took the family camping was around 1970, after having rented a small cabin outside Yosemite Valley. After he retired from Aerospace Corporation at the age of 63, he would take 6-week RV trips with Diane, also all over the Western US.
Dave would also bring his family along on weekend golf tournaments held by Aerospace- the family favorite was going to Palm Springs every fall.
Dave was a widower, having lost his beloved wife Diane in 2001.
Dave is survived by his three daughters: Brenda, Karen and Lisa (and Lisa's husband Mike), as well as his four grandchildren: David, Jim, Andrea, and Ashlyn.
A memorial service celebrating Dave's life will be held at the Christ Community Church, 7911 Winnetka Avenue, Winnetka, California on Friday, March 2 at 1 PM.
