Tommy Waymon James, 72, of Alma, passed away Sunday, July 28, 2024 in Fort Smith. He was born September 8, 1951 in Fort Smith to the late George A. and Ethel I. (Boze) James. He served his country for 37 years in the U.S. Air Force as a SMSgt serving during Operation Iraqi Freedom. He was the Station Chief at Dean Springs for the BDR Volunteer Fire Department for over 20 years; and a member of Alma Methodist Church.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a sister, Linda White.
He is survived by his wife of 52 years, Deborah Dean James of the home; a daughter, Becky Denney (David) of Alma; a son, Tony James (Melissa) of Alma; a brother, Kenneth James (Monteen) of Van Buren; a brother-in-law, Harlan White of Tulsa; two granddaughters, Aubrey James and Rachel James, both of Alma; and several nieces and nephews.
Funeral service will be 11:00 a.m. Friday, August 2, 2024 at Edwards Van-Alma Funeral Home Chapel with interment to follow at the Fort Smith National Cemetery, under the direction of Edwards Van-Alma Funeral Home of Van Buren, AR.
Pallbearers will be David Denney, Larry Goodner, Kenny Bell, Sam Betterton, Dana Dean, and Jackie Rogers. Honorary pallbearers will be Dave Rickard, Roger Conrad, and Larry Farris.
The family will visit with friends from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. Thursday, August 1, 2024, at Edwards Van-Alma Funeral Home, 4100 Alma Highway, Van Buren, AR.
