Thel Van Buren Pound, 91, of Fayetteville, passed away Monday, September 19, 2022 in Fayetteville. He was born January 19, 1931 in Fort Smith to the late Howard O’Dell and Mable Fay (Daugherty) Pound. Having never married, he took joy in his extended family of three brothers, a sister, and eleven nieces and nephews. Thel lived in the land of serendipity, a magical place where he penned prose and poetry as eloquently as the masters and as thought-provoking as the philosophers. He was a student of the Bible, a gifted musician, and an avid fisherman and hunter. As a boy he spent time in his grandfather Daugherty's garden following behind the plow searching for arrowheads. He even mastered the art of arrowhead making. But above all, Thel loved the Lord and gave his life to Him as a child. Everyone loved this gentle man and his presence will be greatly missed.
He was preceded in death by his parents and two brothers, Jimmy Don Pound and Billy Ray Pound.
He is survived by a brother, Perry Duane Pound and wife Paulette of Marion, Arkansas; his only sister, Twania Pound James Pinnell of Fayetteville; and his nieces and nephews, Donna Hart, Diana Benoit, Denita Jaeger, Lori Gray, Greg Pound, Glen Pound, Travis Pound, Sammy Pound, Angela Stout, Paula Young and John Dell James.
Graveside service will be 10:00 a.m. Thursday, September 22, 2022 at Woodlawn Memorial Park, under the direction of Edwards Van-Alma Funeral Home of Van Buren, AR.
The family will visit with friends from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. Wednesday, September 21, 2022, at Edwards Van-Alma Funeral Home, 4100 Alma Highway, Van Buren, AR.
