Samuel Edward Kizer, 83, of Alma, passed away Wednesday, September 18, 2024 at his home. He was born May 2, 1941 in Bakersfield, CA to the late Samuel and Shirley (Tyson) Kizer. He retired from the Arkansas Highway Department in 2001 after 40 years, rising from surveyor to Assistant Resident Engineer. After retirement, he was employed by Crawford Construction as a consultant.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a daughter, Suzanne Elisa Kizer; a son, Samuel Edward Kizer, Jr.; and three sisters, Glenda Sue Scarbrough, Mary Jean Southern, and Joyce Lee Kizer.
He is survived by his wife of 63 years, Jerilynn Masterson Kizer of the home; a daughter, Candace Collins and husband Ronnie of Ozark; two sisters, Jeanette Willmon and husband James, and Shirley Smither and husband Fred, all of Mulberry; two brothers, Leroy Kizer and wife Wilma of Mulberry, and Robert Kizer and wife Elaine of Burlington, KY; two grandchildren, Haley Collins and Chance Collins, both of Ozark; a step-granddaughter, Destiny Suggs of Russellville; and three step-great-grandchildren, Ryan Moffatt, Luke Moffatt, and Olivia Suggs, all of Russellville.
Funeral service will be 2:00 p.m. Friday, September 20, 2024 at Edwards Van-Alma Funeral Home Chapel with interment to follow at New Cemetery in Mulberry, under the direction of Edwards Van-Alma Funeral Home of Van Buren, AR. Dr. Dale Walker of Concord Baptist Church will be officiating.
Pallbearers will be Ronnie Collins, Chance Collins, Fred Smither, Jr., Ted Burkhart, Haley Collins, and T.J. Smither.
The family will visit with friends from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. Thursday, September 19, 2024, at Edwards Van-Alma Funeral Home, 4100 Alma Highway, Van Buren, AR.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Concord Baptist Church at 6105 Alma Hwy, Van Buren, AR 72956.
