Pete Hurlburt, 86, of Van Buren, departed this life peacefully Wednesday, December 11, 2024 at his home surrounded by family. He was born June 4, 1938 in Olney, TX to the late Lonzo and Jewel (Sharp) Hurlburt. Pete was a builder/master carpenter. He had remodeled numerous commercial and residential properties, and owned a metal roofing company. He was an ordained minister having performed several wedding and funeral services within the family. He had a passion for winemaking and was excellent at it.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a daughter, Jean Hurlburt; a son, Todd Hurlburt; sisters, Della Shaw and Anna Shaw; and brothers, Dean Hurlburt, Neal Hurlburt, and Jody Hurlburt.
He is survived by his wife, Christine Hurlburt of the home; three daughters, Kaye Gilstrap and husband Richard, Dana Morrison, and Carissa De’Berry, all of Van Buren; a son, Aaron Hurlburt of Poteau; a sister, Chunky Eden of Antlers, OK; four brothers, Junior Hurlburt of Sawyer, OK, Billy Hurlburt of Hugo, OK, Eddie Hurlburt of Cloudy, OK, and James Hurlburt of Oklahoma City; and many grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Funeral service will be 2:00 p.m. Monday, December 16, 2024 at the Rudy Community Church, under the direction of Edwards Van-Alma Funeral Home of Van Buren, AR. A private family committal will be at Bugscuffle Cemetery near Strickler.
Pallbearers will be Quinton Hurlburt, Zane Hurlburt, Chad Hurlburt, Eric Wade, Devin Wade, and Nick Wade. Jeremy Wade and Kyler Wade will serve as honorary pallbearers.
The family will visit with friends from 1:00 p.m. until service time, Monday at the church, 6719 Hwy 282, Rudy, AR.
