Matt Phillips, 31, of Fort Smith, passed away Tuesday, March 15, 2016 in Crawford County. He was born June 27, 1984 in Fort Smith. He attended Oklahoma Baptist University where he played golf and basketball. He was an amphibious air traffic controller for the U.S. Navy having served in Iraq and Afghanistan.
He is survived by his wife, Kristal of Seattle, WA; a son, Logan Ray Phillips of Seattle; his mother, Pat Phillips of Lee’s Summit, MO; his father, Eddie “Bubba” Phillips of Fort Smith; two aunts, Dianna Phillips of Conway, and Annette Morris of Fort Smith; three uncles, Darrell Breeden of Muldrow, Larry Breeden of Alma, and Randy Phillips of Mulberry; cousins, Coby Peters and Mary Finely; and his grandparents, James and Mildred Breeden of Alma.
Funeral service will be 10:30 a.m. Monday, March 21, 2016 at Edwards Van-Alma Funeral Home Chapel with interment to follow at the Fort Smith National Cemetery, under the direction of Edwards Van-Alma Funeral Home of Van Buren.
Pallbearers will be Heath Burger, V.C. Winters, Gary Smith, Jim Lemieux, Eric Plum, and Danny Ray.
The family will visit with friends from 3:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m. Sunday, March 20, 2016 at Edwards Van-Alma Funeral Home, 4100 Alma Highway, Van Buren.
