Jack Thompson, 83, Van Buren, died Thursday, February 21, 2013 in Fort Smith. He was born April 24, 1929 in Hamlet, NC to the late Hebert and Ora Thompson, Sr. He was a retired supervisor with the U.S. Postal Service, a member of the American Legion, and of the National Association of Letter Carriers. He was a former Deacon and Trustee at First Assembly of God in Van Buren, and served in the U.S. Army during the Korean Conflict. He was preceded in death by his first wife, Deloris Thompson, a brother, Leon Thompson, and a sister, Mildred Butler.
He is survived by his wife Lenice Thompson, of the home; a daughter, Linda Franklin and husband Jerry of Van Buren; two sons, Mike Thompson and wife Judy of Van Buren, and David Thompson of Van Buren; three stepsons, Larry Gordon and wife Paula of Van Buren, Eddie Gordon and wife Diane of Muldrow, and Wendell Gordon of Van Buren; a brother, Harry Thompson of Rochester, NY; six grandchildren, Stephanie Harris and husband Clay of Van Buren, Angela Stewart and husband Keane of Farmington, Kellie Salyer and husband Kyle of Van Buren, Kerrie Graham and husband Justin of Van Buren, Hayden Thompson and wife Jenelle of Highlands Ranch, CO, and Brittany Thompson of Van Buren; seven step-grandchildren, and nineteen great-grandchildren.
Funeral service will be 10:00 a.m. Tuesday, February 26, 2013 at Edwards Van-Alma Funeral Chapel with interment to follow at Gracelawn Cemetery in Van Buren under the direction of Edwards Van-Alma Funeral Home of Van Buren.
Pallbearers will be Clay Harris, Keane Stewart, Kyle Salyer, Justin Graham, Hayden Thompson, and Jerry Watson.
The family will visit with friends on Monday, February 25, 2013 from 6:00-8:00 P.M. at Edwards Van Alma Funeral Home in Van Buren, AR.
