Glendall Ray Black, 83, of Alma, passed away Monday, January 20, 2025 in Fort Smith. He was born November 19, 1941 in Hackett to the late Lester and Louise (Foster) Black. He graduated from Southwestern Assemblies of God University in Waxahachie, TX, and received a Master’s Degree in Education from the University of Central Arkansas in Conway. He was a pastor in and around western Arkansas, and had been an administrator/teacher for 34 years.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a daughter, Michelle Black; and a granddaughter, Sarah Maddock.
He is survived by his wife of 56 years, Marilyn Black of the home; a daughter, Denise Maddock and husband Art of northwest Arkansas; a sister, Charlotte McCutchan of Plano, TX; two brothers, Lenial Black and wife Judith of Tyler, TX, and Don Black and wife June of Van Buren; two grandchildren, Jaydyn and Evan Maddock; and several nieces and nephews.
Funeral service will be 11:00 a.m. Friday, January 24, 2025 at Butterfield Church in Van Buren. Committal will be 2:00 p.m. at Liberty Cemetery in Greenwood, under the direction of Edwards Van-Alma Funeral Home of Van Buren, AR.
Pallbearers will be Don Black, Ryan Burris, J.R. Smith, Joe Hamby, Greg Sisney, and Ray Reynolds. Lenial Black will be an alternate pallbearer. The Butterfield Church Men’s Group will serve as honorary pallbearers.
The family will visit with friends from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. Thursday, January 23, 2025, at Edwards Van-Alma Funeral Home, 4100 Alma Highway, Van Buren, AR.
