Cynthia “Cindy” L. DuBois, 59, of Fort Smith, graduated into Heaven, Saturday, May 13, 2017, at Mercy Hospice surrounded by her family after a long battle with lung disease. Cindy was born June 23, 1957 in Little Rock to William “Bill” Sr. and Margaret Stermetz Byrd and was the youngest of four children. She was a deputy clerk for the City of Fort Smith, and city clerk for Barling. In addition to her parents, Cindy was preceded in death by her husband, Gerald “Gerry” DuBois.
Cindy had a wonderful, out-going personality and was loved by her family and friends. An exceptional storyteller, she had a great sense of humor and always made people laugh.
She was also part of the Invotek team that created a Dementia Care training application with the support of the National Institute of Aging and UAMS. This application will be named in Cindy’s honor. Cindy faced many challenges in her life, but the Lord never left her or forsake her. Through her trials, she learned to trust Jesus.
She is survived by her daughters, Sara Adair and husband Shawn of Van Buren, and Katie Whitehead and husband Toby of Ozark; two sisters, Brenda Robertson and husband Larry, and Sharon Bonds, all of Fort Smith; a brother, William Byrd, Jr. of Fort Smith; and five grandchildren, Sam Midkiff, Joshua, Maggie and Lily Kate Adair, and John Paul Whitehead.
The funeral service will be 10:00 a.m. Friday May 19, 2017 at Edwards Van-Alma Funeral Home Chapel with Pastor Gary Brown officiating. Cremation will follow under the direction of Edwards Van-Alma Funeral Home of Van Buren, AR.
The family will visit with friends from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. Thursday, May 18, 2017, at Edwards Van-Alma Funeral Home, 4100 Alma Highway, Van Buren, AR.
