Thomas (Tom) Harry Mitchell, 62, of Upland, died peacefully on August 25th, 2018 surrounded by loved ones. He is survived by his wife Anne, daughter Jessica, grandbabies Logen, Noble and Kyra, countless friends, and dozens of honorary nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his mother, father, and brother Allen Mitchell. Thomas was born on October 8th, 1955, in Upland California, to Ellsworth and Harriet Mitchell. He graduated from Alta Loma High School in 1973, and went on to study Business Administration at USC. After college, Tom came back to Upland and dedicated his career to honoring the legacy of the third-generation family business, Mitchell’s Plumbing, based in downtown Upland.
Tom was a lifelong “Havasu River Rat” and a competitive boat and ski racer. He was an thrill seeker and enjoyed hang gliding, barefoot water skiing, skydiving, and bungee jumping. Tom loved woodworking, fishing, playing guitar, and feeding hummingbirds. Tom has been a member of the Elks Lodge since he was 18, and has taught Hunter Safety Courses for the Department of Fish and Wildlife for over 25 years.
Tom had an infectious laugh and a heart of gold that has touched everyone that had the privilege of calling him a friend. He is known for his sense of humor, larger than life personality, and loyalty to his friends and family. Thomas dedicated his life to his wife, his daughter and grandbabies, his friends, and his community. The world is a better place because of the impact Tommy Mitchell had on it, and the void caused by his death will be immeasurable.
