Maria Macias

It is with full sadness that we announce the death of our beloved mother Maria Macias (Maria Mercado Gonzalez). Maria passed away of natural causes at the age of 98, on August 6, 2023 in the city of Upland, California. Maria was born 0n August 20th, 1924 in San Antonio, Jalisco, Mexico. She was the first child of twelve children to Jose Maria Mercado and Avelina Gonzalez. She lived in San Antonio until the age of 15, as she was asked to assist her uncle Ambrosio, who was just ordained as a priest. She lived with her uncle Ambrosio the rest of her adolescence and part of her early adult years. She often recounted stories that this period was the best time of her life. Her uncle was assigned to different small towns in Jalisco, and she moved from place to place to be with him. During this period, she made many friends in places like Sayula, Tizapan and various others. She married JGuadalupe Macias on April 21, 1952. She gave birth to eleven children. Maria is survived by her husband Guadalupe, and six of her children: Estela, Salvador, Yolanda, Guadalupe, Pedro and Ignacio, as well as six of her siblings. Maria’s legacy will continue with her eighteen grandchildren and sixteen great-grandchildren. Maria will be most remembered for her devoted Christian faith, the love she shared for her family, and for her love and enthusiasm for music and dancing.

She will forever be missed! The mass to celebrate her life will be held at Saint Joseph Catholic Church in the city of Upland, on August 25, 2023 at 11 a.m., following by the procession to Oak Park Cemetery in the city of Claremont, CA, where she will be laid to rest.
