Jane was born in 1933 to Lundy and Jennie Hilfiker in St. Louis, MO. After graduating from Ritenour High School, she got married and began her career with Southwestern Bell Telephone Company. She became a leader in her local chapter of the Business and Professional Women's Foundation and found her strength in mentoring and training. After retiring from the Telephone Company, she and her then-husband bought and operated a small lakefront resort outside Branson, MO. Wanting to be closer to her family, she moved to Upland, CA and brought her experience to Home Savings bank, from whereupon she retired in 1996.
Jane had an extraordinary time during her retirement years, living most of that time in Palm Desert, CA. She was a passionate and talented bridge player, earning the rank of Silver Life Master. She garnered a reputation as a beloved player, leader, and teacher in the bridge community. Jane’s other passion was travel, and she was rightfully proud to have sailed every ocean and been to every continent, including Antarctica. Jane’s youthful spirit and loyalty fostered friendships that lasted decades. A lover of presents and gathering with friends and family, Jane was blessed to celebrate 89 beautiful birthdays.
She is preceded in death by her parents; former spouse, Bill Patchett; and partner, Chuck Cerny. She is survived by her sister, Dolores Karros; her nephews and niece, Paul Karros (Vivian), Phillip Karros (Kathy), Cristina Passwater (Mike); great-nieces, Sarah Karros, Lauren Carr (Wes), Maggie Spicer (Garrett), and Jennie Patten (Chris); great-great-niece and nephew, Emerie and Wade Spicer; as well as friends all around the world.
