95 years old went home on December 10, 2016 surrounded by her family. Gloria was born on September 2, 1921 to Manuel & Gloria Perry in New Bedford Massachusetts, she was 4th of 5 children. The family moved to California after the depression and she grew up in the Hayward area. As a young woman, Gloria moved back East with her parents to Connecticut.There she meet her husband, Nicholas, on a blind date at a New Year's Eve Party.They were married in Connecticut in 1946. They moved back to California and settled in San Leandro, near family. Within a few years they came South to Los Angeles with their son, Nicky. Gloria worked as a housewife & mother and she was a devoted Catholic. She loved to cook and was excellent at it.She also knitted and crocheted, and she was an accomplished seamstress. So much so,she made a lot of her own clothes, including her wedding dress. All of the family was lucky enough to be gifted with her sweaters, blankets, slippers, ponchos, and everybody's favorite, the knitted beer can hat! After her son had grown, Gloria went back to school. She graduated in 1969 as a LVN nurse. She never worked as a nurse, but started Filanda Landscaping, with her husband. They specialized in office landscaping. They were a private contractor at the General Telephone Building on Wilshire. They potted, cared for, watered and fed, 1,000 to 1,500 plants in the 21 story building. She loved her plants and flowers, and together with her husband built a flourishing business. They worked hard at it for many years until retirement. Gloria and Nick had many golden years together in their 62 years of marriage. Gloria was predeceased by her parents, Manual & Gloria, her siblings, Lilia (Bettencourt), Charles (infant), Gilda (Medeiros) & Gilbert Perry. Also, her husband, Nicholas and her beloved son, Nicky. She is survived by her grandson, Alan (Brittany) and 3 great-grandchildren, Gage, Leah & Maeson. Gloria was also loved by 4 generations of nieces and nephews. Gloria spent her remaining years with her great-niece, Jonni (Daniel). She will be dearly missed.
