He graduated from Simi Valley High School in June of 1996. After graduation, Eric enlisted in the United States Navy. He hoped to be a Top Gun pilot but missed the height requirement by two inches. He decided to get as close to the fighter jets as possible and he became an aviation electrician. He served on the USS Nimitz during his time in the Navy. The Nimitz did a World Cruise during his service and Eric was able to visit many different countries around the world. He was honorably discharged from the Navy in September of 1999.
After he was discharged, he earned his Associate’s Degree from Irvine Valley College and his Bachelor’s Degree in Criminal Justice from California State University at Fullerton. He was working at Marriott Vacation Club in Newport Coast when he met his wife, Jennifer. Eric and Jennifer were married on August 25, 2012. Eric and Jennifer have two children, Victoria, 9, and Nathan, 7.
Eric held many jobs in the insurance industry before he found his niche at the Writer’s Guild of America. When Eric was not working, you could find him on the hockey rink, playing poker, playing golf, biking with his children, going to Disneyland with his family, or one of his favorite things – attending his children’s competition cheer events. He loved being a cheer Dad and supporting the sport his children loved.
Eric was extremely competitive and inspired everyone in his life to strive for the best. This could be seen in every aspect of his life. He had the second fastest mile on the USS Nimitz, he zealously celebrated his wins at cards, and he made a deal with Victoria that when she got first place at a cheer competition, he would buy her a cell phone. She earned the phone in December of 2023. He was looking forward to traveling to the Summit Cheer Championship in Florida this May to cheer on Victoria and her team.
He filled the “dash” in his life with a constant competitive drive and lived his life to the fullest.
A memorial service for Eric will be held Friday, March 29, 2024 from 3:00 PM to 4:00 PM at Stone Funeral Home, 355 East 9th Street, Upland, CA 91786. A reception will be held at the Parker residence immediately following the funeral service. All are invited.
