Donald E. Ellis, 86, of Alta Loma, CA died Tuesday, January 3, 2023, at his home following a long illness with his loving family by his side. A memorial service will be held at a later date to Celebrate his Life.
Don was born on a farm near Allen, NE, the son of Vernon Sr. (Doc) and Eleanor (Johnson) Ellis. He graduated from Allen Consolidated School in 1954. He joined the Army in 1955 where he served his tour of duty in Germany. On November 18, 1961, he married the love of his life, Fern King in Las Vegas, NV. To this reunion, two children were born. Eric Todd and Stacy Dawn.
Don was employed by West Coast Glass Distributors where he earned his way up to General Manager. After retirement, he worked for Package Research in Quality Control. Don enjoyed riding motorcycles, horseback riding, golf, travelling, playing cards, and mostly spending time with his family.
He will be fondly remembered as playing practical jokes, his wonderful sense of humor, contagious smile, and his laugh. He was never one to complain about what life threw him, and especially not about the pain he suffered with all his different illnesses. Don was a man that others aspired to be, as evidenced by all the letters he received over the years. One of his many favorite isms was, “Let’s don’t and say we did.”
Don is survived by his wife, Fern; son, Eric (Kelly); daughter, Stacy (Clifford); two grandchildren, Breana (Neil), and Noah; one step-son, Jeff Jackson; step-granddaughter, Kristen; one great step-granddaughter, Devin Orellana; brothers, Vernon Jr. (Sandy), Keith (Dorothy), Gary (Twila), and Cal; two sisters, Joyce, and Nancy (Merlin); two sisters-in-law, Lorraine Ellis and Frankie, (Darrel) Mayes; and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, and brothers Jim and Jack.
Stone Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements.
