Today we honor the life of Elizabeth Ann Higgins who above all, cherished family and faith. She passed away peacefully on September 8, 2022 in Fontana, California surrounded by loved ones. She was born in Pontiac, Michigan August 14th, 1937 to her parents, Leonard and Margaret Buchanan, whom she loved dearly.
Known affectionately as Betty, she was a devoted matriarch to her family and a caring friend. Betty was married to her devoted husband, Timothy, for more than 50 years before his passing in 2014. She is survived by her daughter and son-in-law, Terri and Dane; three grandchildren, Allison, Kimberly, and Christopher; two great grandsons, Alex and Ben; her sister Margaret; and her nieces Ronda, Christine, Jennifer, Renea, and Mary Margaret.
Betty was well-known for her lively personality, signature style, and her love for people. In her youth, she enjoyed playing basketball and ping-pong, and she served in the civil air patrol. In later years Betty loved to create beauty and harmony in the world around her, particularly with adventures to clothing and home decor shops. Spending time with family was always a priority that brought her much joy.
She was happiest spending time in the company of others, because people truly brought her spirit to life. An engaging conversationalist, Betty could talk to anyone about anything. Those who were close with Betty knew that conversations often led to her truest passion, God. As a devoted Catholic, Betty viewed life through her faith and always had her guardian angels looking over her. Throughout her life, her love of God and deep faith in the Church moved Betty to be an active volunteer in her community. This devotion brought her the opportunity to visit many spiritual places including The Holy Land, Vatican City, and Mexico, where she traveled to see the Pope.
Betty once said that when you die, God has decided that you have nothing left to achieve. As we come together today to honor Betty, we remember her legacy as a devoted Catholic, loving family member, and a friend to all. We will carry with us the memory of her bright smile and infectious laughter as we remember all that she achieved in her beautiful lifetime.
