Barbara Jo Smith

Barbara Jo Smith (Lewis) Loving and devoted Mother and Grandmother, age 78, of Ontario, CA, passed away on Thursday, October 20, 2022 in Upland, CA. Ms. Smith was born March 10, 1944 in Darby, Pennsylvania, the daughter of Cpt. Fabian H. and Evelyn Lewis, both from Wheaton, MN. She was united in marriage for 19 years to her high school sweetheart, Roger Bennett Smith, at St. Patrick's Church, St. Charles, IL on September 11, 1965. Ms. Smith is survived by her four loving children: Deanna (Kameron) Kennemer of Orange, CA, David (Bridget) Smith of Corona, CA, Carolyn (Wayne) Bowe-McLeod of Oceanside, CA, and Katherine Hage of Upland, CA, three brothers: Dick (Linda) Lewis of Geneva, IL, Phil (Maureen) Lewis of St. Charles, IL, and Tom Lewis of Tualatin, OR, one sister, Rhonda (Bill) Kochlefl of Winnetka, IL and 13 grandchildren ages 14 to 27 years old. She is preceded in death by one sister, Arlene Glesne and one dear grandchild Maxwell Bowe-McLeod. Ms. Smith who grew up in St. Charles, IL attended Mt. Saint Mary's Academy and graduated from St. Charles High School in 1962. She then went on to the University of Illinois where she majored in English Literature. After college Barbara and Roger moved to Joliet, IL and started their family. Barbara was a dedicated mother and homemaker devoting herself to her four active children joining numerous clubs and sports. She was an accomplished pianist and had a flair for drawing, painting and sewing. In her spare time she crafted, swam and enjoyed the outdoors. The couple moved throughout the states to Missouri, New Jersey and Ohio before settling in Upland, CA in 1980. She especially enjoyed being located near her treasured children and grandchildren whom she visited often. Funeral Services will be held Monday, November 14, 2022 at St. Anthony's Catholic Church in Upland, CA. Interment will be private.
