He is survived by his wife of 46 years, Betsy, and their 3 children and 8 grandchildren, Mark Kelly (Christina), Traci Graham (Guy), Patrick Kelly (Fernanda); Grandchildren, Logan Graham, Marlie Graham, Kennedy Graham, Kerstin Kelly, Sophia Kelly, Dylan Graham, Max Kelly, Luka Kelly; Brothers Robert Kelly, Christopher Kelly, James Kelly, John Kelly.
Bill grew up in southern California and graduated from Hilltop High School in 1967. He went on to graduate from San Diego State University with a BA in 1974.
He served honorably in the US Marine Corps Reserves from 1968 to 1977, and in the United States Air Force Reserves 433rd Air Lift Wing.
He was a teacher in the Northeast Side Independent School District in San Antonio, TX as a shop teacher for 20 years, and in Special Education for 9 years, until his retirement. After retirement , he frequently substituted in all grade levels. He loved helping kids to succeed, and gave that little extra help that they needed. He still kept in contact with so many of his former students.
He was named Teacher of the Year, and was President of the Windcrest Optimist Club one year. He was always helping someone out, or working and building on something, especially with wood.
Bill enjoyed taking trips with Betsy all over the U.S. He was always happy to say how many states he'd been to, even if it was only driving over the border. I'll always remember our big family trip to Germany.
He loved watching his kids grow up and succeed and the grandkids growing up. You were their Dampa, as Logan named you.
He will be truly missed by so many. We know you are watching over us.
Service at Fort Sam Houston National Cemetery on February 9, 2022, at 1:45 pm, at Shelter #5.
