Tom.. a year has passed and I still think about you everyday. You made a huge impact on everyone's lives that you touched. I hope heaven has a great golf course and a 19th hole because when I get there you and I have a lot of catching up to do. Love you always..Jim Logan

We are so grateful for our friendships with both Tom & Gina, very many cherished memories from our time together in  Aiken, South Carolina.  Tom had a contagious positive personality.  We can still hear Tom's laugh and see his smile, and that mischievous glint in his eyes.  We will miss him very much.  Gina, we love you and pray for God's peace and strength for each new day.

Tom, you were the perfect combination of crazy and grounded. You loved life with a zest that inspired others to live to their fullest. Joy bubbled up from your soul. I'm also a fellow classmate of Tom's from MIBS.  This picture is from our time as students in Cuernavaca. A big-hearted man that would give you the shirt off his back without a second thought. Rest in peace.

As Tom's oldest sister, my memories begin in Tampa, FL. We played outside & unsupervised within reach of Mom blowing a ship whistle to call us in.  One dayTom was defending a victim of bullies on our street -they beat him up too but he never told . Tom didn't believe in keeping any rule he didn't agree with so he got spanked & he never cried. But if we laughed at him during the spanking we got one too. Tom decided at 13 to do a student exchange program in Sincelejo, Colombia . He lived with Nacho for the first part of the summer & Nacho lived with us the last half. Nacho was a nickname for gringos of Ocala, FL to pronounce. Tom began to talk Spanish even in his sleep! Tom was an original &wrote his own life story as a teenager. Tom's friends were many and not limited to convention. He partied but Mom&Dad never disowned him even while setting limits. He credits their persistent love as what inspired him to read the Bible& start a spiritual relationship with God more than any thing. During college summers he cooked for a railroad & loved the hardworking culture & challenge of soothing guys through their bellies. Uncle Harold told him not to make a cabbage recipe again however! Tom loved to laugh in the face of hardship, he respected others' ideas&beliefs, and had zero tolerance for cruelty and arrogance. Tom built his life around loving&enjoying Gina-she is his everything! Tom fought his final battle with intelligence, courage, dignity,&unshakable faith in God's goodness. I miss his laugh, hugs,&stubborn "Stone-ism" that stood for goodness&humble service to others.

Tom and I met in graduate school, MIBS, an international business program at the University of South Carolina that brought people from all walks of life very close together.  Tom and I became close friends as roommates in Cuernavaca and Mexico City.  We shared some of the most defining experiences during that time (including 1985 earthquakes in CDMX, our internship at Unisys finance department, and the best tacos in world at El Caminero). Tom was a classmate, a roommate and a dear friend. Tom stood by my side as witness in my wedding civil ceremony in CDMX. Our lives took different paths after the MIBS years but the memories and the love for a truly dear friend will be there forever. Gina, Martha y yo te mandamos un fuerte abrazo y mucho cariño. Buen camino querido Tom. 

I am one of Tom's many friends from the "MIBS" program at USC.  What an interesting guy!  A man with a big appetite for life, and an even bigger heart.  I fondly remember Tom and his family welcoming Ricardo, Miguel, and me into their Kentucky home for Thanksgiving way back in 1984.  

Tom was a close Peace Corps friend from 1981-1983.  During that window, we visited each other several times in remote Lesotho, once simply wandering into the mountains on a several day walkabout.  He was gregarious and fun spirited, always with a big smile and a hearty laugh.  Most impressively, he really took the time to learn the local language, Sesotho.  He spoke it well in the remote regions of Lesotho.  Had he not, we might still be there!  A group of us are in the process of organizing a 40th reunion of our service.  It was in that context that we learned of his passing.  In April, he sent a message, indicating his hope to attend.  Now, we are all saddened to learn of his passing.    When we do meet next September, we will all share warm stories of our time together, and Tom's memory will feature prominently.  We will miss him.  He was our friend, just as he was a friend to his students and fellow teachers in Lesotho many years ago.

Tom y yo nos conocimos en plena pandemia y en medio de un traslado a otra oficina, tuvimos mucho tiempo para compartír anécdotas ya que éramos los únicos empleados en ese momento en la oficina. Siempre fue una persona alegre, positiva y muy trabajador. Cada vez  que escuche la palabra “traviesa” su nombre vendrá a mi mente, así me llamaba. Siempre serás recordado Tom por todos los que te queríamos. 

He will be always in our hearts because of the light in his soul.

Tom left an unforgettable memory in my life. He was a strong, reassuring, smiling figure at a point in my life when I didn’t know if I was coming or going..... his laugh said it all: don’t take anything too seriously, enjoy, eat, drink, laugh, be merry with your friends and family, tomorrow is another day, live for today that’s all that matter. I’ve been trying to follow his unspoken mantra ever since. Good advise and Thank you Tom, I wish I could have heard your hearthy laugh once again...  ❤️ ❤️ ♥️

Dear Compadre Tom, I bear so many fond memories of you and Gina.  Our frienship dates back to when  you were a student on assignment in México.  It was thanks to Gina that we became good friends. A bondage never broken in spite of the distance.

Tom and I were college roommates and Delta Chi fraternity brothers at Penn State and remained life long friends for over Fourty four years. Even though we had separate paths we always remained brothers through thick and thin. Tom had wonderful parents and brothers and sisters and a loving wife Gina, which he adored. We so looked forward to our weekly talks and occasional vacations together. He is the salt of the earth, such a rare soul who always saw the best in everybody. Tom words can't describe the void in my life now that your gone.  Everyone should be so lucky to have a best friend like you. Love ya brother..see you on the other side. Jim Logan

Tom was a very sweet and happy person. I didn’t get to know him for too long but felt like I’d known him for years. Such an incredibly happy soul he had!! I will always remember his beautiful smiling face as that is the way I always saw him.  Rest In Peace my good friend. I will miss you always. 

The way Tom Stone would stop what he was doing,  lean back in his chair, cross his hands and give his complete attention to me or the many others seeking his knowledge was an inspiration.  He did this throughout his illnesses with a smile and a joke.  I agree with the person that called him, "A rare, truly good guy." I could go on and on about his daily calls home or how he never ever raised his voice.   I have said this so many times before but I guess this will be the last time.

Tom and I worked together for several years. He was always so optimistic. He was kind, caring and understanding. We sat a few desks apart but talked everyday, we would share stories about our furbabies, Peewee, Cosita and Chico,and I would  talk about Maddie and max. I remember the first time I heard him speaking in Spanish, while talking on the phone with his wife Gina, blew me away. He was a good friend and man that I was grateful to have in my life and I will miss him dearly. Rest in peace Tomasino. 

Tom was a sweet & caring person. We worked together for several years. A partition separated us as we chit-chatted through it throughout the day.  And every day, without fail, he called & talked to Gina during his lunch break. Tom was always positive & optimistic, lifting everyone around him. He will be missed.

We had many years of friendship which started  really when he had a need to find a home for Peewee, a chihuahua. Tom & Gina were delighted & gave him best home ever! A special blessing when Tom & Gina cared for our pup, Osito,  when Bernie, my husband recover from bad car accident & brought Osito to vist Bernie at rehab every Sunday. We had good times at Majestic theater & lunches & shopping at Market Square.

Memorial Service

Mr. Stone is survived by his loving wife Georgina Stone; siblings Mary Price and husband Kent Price, James Stone and wife Debbie Stone; John Stone, Ann Payne and husband Dr. William Payne; nieces and nephews Stacy, Adam, Molly, Laura, Stefanie, Samantha, William, Elizabeth and Mary Katherine.
