Our beloved Susan Grace Huff Windham went home to our Heavenly Father on Friday, June 14, 2024, at the age of 72, surrounded by family. Known affectionately to all as Suzi, she was born to Fred L. Huff and Louise Huff Hudspeth in Midland, TX, on April 28, 1952.
At the age of 15, Suzi’s life was forever changed by a car accident wherein she sustained numerous injuries, resulting in life-long health issues. After months in a coma, she awoke and had to relearn how to walk, talk, write, read, etc. Suzi spent years in rehab, recovering and fighting to get her life back. Eventually, she was well enough to return to school and succeeded in graduating from Lee High School in Midland. Before her accident, Suzi loved to sing, was an arm wrestling champion and a head cheerleader.
At age 10, Suzi met a new neighbor, Tom Windham. They were mere acquaintances for years until they met again at a wedding when she was 20. At the time, Tom was traveling the country while serving in the US Air Force, so they began to correspond via handwritten letters. It was then that they fell deeply in love. They were married on September 1, 1973, and were blessed to celebrate 50 glorious years of marriage. Suzi was a devoted wife to Tom and the loving mother of Brian and Jenny. She was a dedicated mother who drove her kids to all their activities, supported them in whatever way they needed, and loved them unconditionally. Suzi was a kind, caring, and giving person who always put the needs of her family and friends before her own. She was a strong woman who faced every challenge with courage and determination. Throughout her entire life, Suzi has held an unwavering faith in God, which she wholeheartedly shared with everyone she met.
She was a member of MacArthur Park Church of Christ for over 35 years. Suzi devoted herself to serving others, worshiping God, attending Ladies Bible Class, and was always inviting everyone she crossed paths with to join her at church. For many years, she was a TOPS (Taking Off Pounds Sensibly) group member at Randolph AFB. She earned numerous awards for her hard work at losing weight and, in the process, gained numerous friends for life. Some of Suzi's most treasured memories were those made while attending the Huff family reunion. She did her best to attend annually over the last 40+ years.
Suzi is survived by her husband, Thomas D. Windham, and their two children, Brian Windham and his wife, Monica, and Jennifer L. Windham Pitner and her husband, Chris. She was blessed with three precious grandchildren: Elizabeth Windham, Carlie Pitner, and Zachary Windham. Suzi is also survived by her sister, Sandi Morrison, and life partner, Terry Schubert, as well as sisters-in-law Debbie Huff, Nancy Franks, and Susan Brunelle. Suzi was preceded in death by her parents, Fred and Cleon Huff, Russ and Louise Hudspeth; her brother, Rodney Huff; nephew, Kyle Huff; mother-in-law, Lorene Gooch Windham Watts; brother-in-law, Gerald Franks; and sister-in-law, Debbie Hinshaw Bogle. She leaves behind numerous cousins, nieces, nephews, and beloved friends.
The funeral service will be held at MacArthur Park Church of Christ in San Antonio, TX, on Thursday, July 11, 2024. A viewing will occur at 10 am and the service will occur at 11 am. Departure from the church is set for 12:45 pm, with interment at Ft. Sam Houston National Cemetery at 1:15 pm. The family would like to thank the staff of Inspiration Hills Rehabilitation Center and Northeast Baptist Hospital for providing exceptional care to Suzi over the last five months. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the charity of your choice in Suzi’s name. She inspired us all and will be deeply missed by everyone whose lives she has touched over the years. Suzi will always be lovingly remembered and remain in the hearts of all who knew her.
