In December of 1955 Rose became an RN and in June of 1956 she joined the Air Force as a flight nurse. For the next sixty years Rose worked as an RN in various settings: University Hospital, The Chest Hospital, Nurse's Etc and retired in Sept of 2015 from Harbour Hospice of Bexar County, LLC at the age of 86.
Rose truly loved her grandchildren and each of them hold their own special memories of her. Randy remembers her teaching him to drive. She thought going from 25 MPH in neighborhoods to 60 MPH on Loop 410 in heavy traffic was a logical progression.
Kelsey will forever be haunted by Grandma Rose's skillet meals and the pre-made teriyaki sauce. When Ketti had to go to to Iraq the kids would fear for their mom. Ketti simply told them that going to Iraq was safer than driving with grandma. Rose was 5'2" on a good day and drove a big 'ole van. I don't think any of the grand kids fought to sit up front with her. Kody will always remember Grandma Rose believing in him and encouraging him. Shiloh says she was always there for his family making sure they were safe. Kollin remembers one time at the beach he got a hold of Uncle D’s eye brow trimmers and shaved all his eye brows. Grandma Rose was so mad she turned red but then began laughing. The day after Kyle and Samantha’s wedding nobody could find Grandma Rose. She went and bought a GPS and drove alone to the beach. Dad and Kyle had to drive down and bring her back. Just a day before she passed she was lying in bed sticking her tongue and making faces at Kyle Jr. He laughed and stuck his tongue right back at her. She loved them all and couldn’t wait to meet ME2, (Zachary Davison)
As time permitted and her health allowed, you would find Rose with her Red Hat friends. She enjoyed the company and the laughter. She enjoyed the getups they wore and fitting in with costumes she would come up with.
Her Church, her faith and her father were very important to her, she had made her peace with God.
Rose loved to laugh and those around her would find themselves laughing at the things she did. She loved going to the Beach and breathing in the ocean air. For years she spent summers there. She loved the water and when her kids were young she would load them up in an old Volkswagen "Thing" and head to Stinky Falls with a loaf of bread and bologna, praying it wouldn't break down but it always did.
Rose loved to help those in need and cared for her ex-husband Richard Davison, the kids father, until he passed away. She believed in helping those in need.
She worried about all her kids, grandkids and great grandkids. Derek Davison was a Godsend to the family and to Rose. He gave his life to her for the last few years making sure she was cared for and being her advocate.
There are not enough words to describe a woman that shaped so many and even in hard times taught lessons to those around her. Everyone will have their own memories of her but I will remember a stubborn woman that kept me on my toes, a mother in law that made me bang my head up against the wall, a mentor that bought my books so I could go to nursing school, a grandma that loved my kids and my grandkids, a mama lion that was mad I took her baby away and married him but later thanked me for loving him, she was a woman who could not forgive herself for her past mistakes but forgave others. Mostly I will remember our last conversation on July 20th. "Rose, what can I get you before I go?".
She looked at me and said "a kiss". I leaned down and kissed her on the cheek and said goodbye.
We will be celebrating her life on Thursday July 25, 2019 11:30 am at St. John Neumann's Catholic Church. Interment will follow at Our Lady of Perpetual Help Cemetery #2. Fill the room with bright, beautiful colors. She wanted a room filled with laughter, not tears.
Thank you to St. John Neumann's Church for continuing to go and see her all throughout her illness. Thank you to Lynn Lackey for being her friend, her confident and a care taker till the end; and, lastly thank you to the staff at Harbour Hospice of Bexar County, LLC for the exceptional care.
