It is with deep sadness to announce that Rosalinda Diaz, age 78 of Universal City, Texas passed away on Monday, December 19, 2022. She was born on July 14, 1944 to Juan Diaz Sr. and Antonia Vela Diaz in Raymondville, Texas where she happily grew up with nine other siblings. “Rose”, as she was best known by family and friends, wanted to serve her country and while still in high school, joined the United States Army in the Women Army Corp. She served with distinction and rose to the rank of Specialist Five as a Drill Sergeant where she trained other young women in the ways of the military. As part of her military occupation specialty (MOS), she was also an army photographer and was best known for her photos of President Jimmy Carter while on a trip to South Korea.
After leaving military service, Rose still wanted to serve her country so she entered into service with the United States Postal Service as one of the first female letter carriers. Her devotion to her fellow co-workers inspired her to join the National Association of Letter Carriers where she attained the position as an officer as the Recording Secretary, a position she held for eleven years. Even after her retirement, Rose continued to serve her fellow employees and remained a life long member of the association. Her combined service to her country and her fellow man spanned over 39 years.
In her private life, Rose continued to enjoy her love for photography and made the best of it while in her many travels across this country that she cherished so much. She worked tirelessly with various associations and foundations in fundraising events for the benefit of children and was a strong advocate against diabetes. Throughout her life Rose was a woman of service, a loving family member and a source of support to all she came in contact with.
Rose is preceded in death by her parents Juan Diaz, Sr. and Antonia Vela Diaz; by her brothers Alex, Juan, Jr., Joe, Richard and Ramiro Diaz; her sisters Maria Inez Garza and Ofelia Diaz Rosso.
She is survived by her sisters Lidia Diaz Loza and Melissa Diaz and by her lifelong friend, companion and partner Rose Ann Pena and numerous nieces and nephews.
Loving thanks and appreciation for the caring and support from Joe and Minnie Pena, Judy Lujan, Gary Heatherington and Elaine Davis.
