He was born June 20, 1927, in Portola, California to John and Louise Whiting. After enlisting in the Navy during World War II and then the Army, he entered West Point Academy June 1946 graduating June 1950. Upon graduation he became a US Air Force officer honorably retiring as a full Colonel in 1979. His assignments included Base Commander at Randolph AFB and Ubon AFB, Thailand; Vice Commandant Air War College and Assistant Deputy Chief of Staff.
On December 27, 1950 he married Marion Carmichael Persons and during his adult life lived in Texas, California, Florida, Virginia, Georgia, Alabama, Nebraska and England with his wife and family.
Bob loved the Lord, was a member of Cornerstone Church and served many years in Rotary International and the American Legion. For over twenty years he was a court appointed Advocate with CASA (Child Advocates San Antonio) – earning many service awards including Advocate of the Year.
He built and successfully managed a Super Lube franchise formerly located on Pat Booker Road in Universal City.
His interests included family, reading, and golf. His later years were spent traveling to Australia, Alaska, Antarctica, Caribbean, Panama Canal, Russia, and Europe; and to visit loved ones and friends throughout the United States.
Bob Whiting is survived by 2 sisters, Connie and Annette; 2 sons, Robert Jr. and Tom; a daughter Julie; 10 grandchildren; and 10 great-grandchildren.

A visitation will be held on Monday, June 22, 2015 from 5:00-8:00 P.M. with funeral service on Tuesday, June 23, 2015 at 9:30 A.M. at Colonial Funeral Home. Interment will follow at Fort Sam Houston National Cemetery at 11:30AM. The Colonial Funeral Home, Universal City (210-658-7037) is entrusted with arrangements including interment at the Fort Sam Houston National Cemetery.
