Richard Dean Heller

Richard Dean Heller, age 85, of San Antonio passed away on Wednesday, September 13, 2023 peacefully surrounded by his loving family. Dean was born July 19, 1938 in Hobart, Oklahoma to Edwin and Opal Heller.

Dean graduated from Central State College (OK) and later with his Masters from Univ. of North Texas. In the early 1970s, Dean started his own custom-made furniture company “Vaughn Heller” in Laredo. Dean moved his family of 4 to San Antonio in 1976 and taught Drafting, Shop & Technology at Kitty Hawk Jr. High for 23 years and then at Ronald Reagan High School for 6 years. In total, Dean taught public education in the State of Texas for 35 years.

In their retirement, Dean & Linda loved to travel including recent trips to Alaska, Oregon, Germany, Switzerland, Budapest, and the Czech Republic. Dean was an avid outdoorsman with a deep love of fishing and hunting. Dean also loved taking professional photography of the Texas outdoors and wildlife.

Dean is preceded in death by his parents; sisters Anna Marie Ellis and Mildred Louise Johnson; and brother Glen Edwin Heller.

Dean leaves behind to cherish his memory, his loving wife of 50 years, Linda Heller; son, Richard Dean Heller, Jr. and his wife Stacey and grandchildren August, Richard Dean III, and Samuel of Austin; daughter, Julie Anna Olivarri and her husband Robert and grandchildren Dylan and Leonardo of San Antonio.

Services will be held for Dean on Wednesday, October 25 with a Visitation at 10:15am and Funeral at 11am both at Our Lady of Perpetual Help, 16075 N. Evans Rd, Selma, TX.
