Pedro Serrato Duron February 17, 1944-February 18, 2023, born to Porfirio and Guadalupe Duron in Greenville, Mississippi. Pedro proudly served his country for 28 years. He was stationed all over the USA. He served three tours in Vietnam and two tours in Korea in Infantry, he served with the 3rd Cav. He was a drill Sergeant at Fort Polk, Louisiana and an ROTC instructor with Ball State University at IU Purdue in Fort Wayne, Indiana. Pedro retired as a Sergeant Major at Fort Sam Houston, Texas. After retiring from the Army, he went on to drive for VIA Metropolitan Transit in San Antonio, Texas until he retired.
He was an avid fisherman and while in Louisiana, was a member of the Bass Anglers of America. They did competition bass fishing in Texas, Arkansas and Louisiana. In San Antonio, he was a Cub Scout Leader in his son’s troop. Then he went on to youth basketball, softball and soccer as a referee and umpire. He loved all sports and was a big Dallas Cowboys fan.
In Louisiana he played the part of Santa for his Army unit to cheer up the Military families during the holidays. He was a life member of the Findlay, Ohio Amvets and of the Our Lady of Perpetual Help in Selma, Texas Military Ministry.
Pedro will be remembered by family and friends as a dedicated soldier, loving family man and hard worker. He loved fishing and a good laugh.
Pedro is preceded in death by his parents; brother, Robert Duron and sister, Carmen Guffey.
He leaves behind to cherish his memories, his loving wife of 51 ½ years Jesusita Duron; four children, Cecilia Duron, Sylvia Solis (Michael), Felipe Duron (Jennifer), Gloria Rodriguez (Abraham); grandchildren, Jessica Christman, Elena Solis (Jake Manjarres), Alicia Solis, Andreas Duron (Priscilla), Helaina Duron, Johnny Nuncio, Serina Nuncio; brother, Antonio Duron; sisters, Ruby Gonzales, Rosie Valdez; his fur babies, Twix, Reese’s and Baby Ruth along with many nieces and nephews.
A visitation for Pedro will be held from 4:00 PM to 8:30 PM with rosary recited from 7:00 PM to 7:30 PM Thursday, March 16, 2023 at Colonial Funeral Home, 625 Kitty Hawk Road, Universal City, TX 78148. A Caisson Service with Military Honors will occur Friday, March 17, 2023 from 9:30 AM to 10:00 AM at Fort Sam Houston National Cemetery at the Assembly Area, 1520 Harry Wurzbach Rd, San Antonio, TX 78209. Funeral Mass will be celebrated Friday, March 17, 2023 from 11:00 AM to 12:00 PM at Our Lady of Perpetual Help, 16075 North Evans Rd, Selma, TX 78154. A graveside service will follow from Holy Cross Cemetery, 17501 Nacogdoches Rd, San Antonio, TX 78266.
