Mother, Momma, Mom, Nana, Aunt Neannie, surprised us and flew away to heaven on Friday, February 10, 2023, at the age of 84. Jeannine is matriarch of our ever-growing tribe, and her legacy of love remains with us, our children and their children, as well as many many others whose lives she touched.
Mary Jeannine Paulk Wade was born in Bishop, Texas on October 12, 1938, to Mahlon and Gladys Paulk. She grew up a farm girl swimming in the stock tank and riding in the back of her daddy’s old truck. She went to Bishop High School, played bass drum in the band and served as Drum Major in the marching band. She worked as a car hop at The Root Beer Stand and a bank teller at Kleberg Bank in Kingsville, TX.
She met Charlie, who was a Navy sailor stationed at the base in Kingsville, on a blind date set up by her much more outgoing sister, Jackie, in December 1960. They were married after a short three-month courtship on March 25, 1961, thus beginning her 23-year career as a Navy wife and mother. She was a homemaker until Jackie, the youngest, was old enough to make her own PB&J. In 1986 she went to work for Randolph Christian Academy (RCA) as Assistant Director where she made life-long friends and helped mold young hearts and minds. She enjoyed pulling out Christmas decorations every year reminiscing over all the handmade ornaments from the kids at RCA. Following her career at RCA, she went to work for Schertz Cibolo Universal City School District in the purchasing department. Her favorite job by far was her role as Nana. Long days by the pool with the grands making the best PB&J sandwiches by the dozen was what she loved the best. As the years progressed, grands turned to great-grands swimming in the pool and eating those same sandwiches. Her heart and home were always open to anyone, anytime.
