Margareta Elisabeth Morgan danced her way into heaven on a beautiful Sunday morning, July 28, in Round Rock, Texas to the sounds of favorite German hymns softly playing and daughters, Lissy and Trudy at her side.
Margaret or Margit, as she was known to most, was born in Kaiserslautern, Germany September 14, 1935 with her childhood overshadowed by the hardships of growing up in the midst of a war torn country. Despite enduring threats to safety, hunger, loss of her mother, a younger sister sent off to relatives and a father conscripted into the German army who was taken as a prisoner of war---her innate resilience and strong positive spirit drew people to her and she was always well-loved by all who knew her. The seeds of her faith in God and His goodness were planted in these early years by her family and nourished within her church community and her little small town church in Erfenbach, Germany held a special place in her heart until the end.
In the post war years of rebuilding, she met Herbert Henry Morgan the love of her life who literally swept her off her feet in a German dance hall, saying I’m going to marry you! They went on to build a beautiful life together that spanned almost 6 decades. She had many adventures as an Air Force wife and mother. Her strong beliefs in democracy led to life long civic engagement including political campaign and get out the vote activities, support of veterans as a Disabled American Veterans Auxiliary unit commander and state chaplain, and shepherding the first integrated Girl Scout troop in Albany, GA in the early 1960's. She was a champion of children through her long time support of Boysville, church youth programs, junior and high school band students, scouts and youth sports – especially soccer. She encouraged and supported not only her own children and grandchildren, but also their friends welcoming them into the heart of her family– seeing each as unique, special and full of potential.
She is survived by daughters Elisabeth Morgan Stafford and husband Arthur T Stafford III, Trudel Catherine Simon and husband R. Frank Simon; grandchildren Margaret Elisabeth Jameson, Andrew Morgan Simon, Emily Stafford Dunn and husband Christopher Thomas Dunn, Barbara Leigh Makowiecki and husband Stephen Michael Makowiecki; great grandchildren Bradley Adam Jameson, Eleanor Grace Dunn and Hunter Michael Makowiecki. Surviving siblings include Gerald Eckler, Dietmar Eckler, and Sigrid Rachor and their families.
She is predeceased by husband Herbert H Morgan, Chief Master Sergeant (Retired) USAF who as you all know by now was waiting for his beloved Margaret and ready for the next dance!
