It's been a while since I last saw or even talked to my cousin Kiyana. I have great memories of her (us) growing up here in Charlotte. I am so proud of her and of the woman she was becoming. As her professor at UTSA, Kiyana brought such joy and insight into the classroom, and I loved our conversations about history, mythology, and her future goals. I am stunned by her absence. What a bright, intelligent, kind young woman her family, her community, her friends, and her school has lost.

November 8 2016, the world lost a brilliant mind, Kiyana Lanise Wilson.   God gave her to us for but a moment and she left us doing just what she was placed here to do; to learn and to teach.  Kiyana, you are loved and missed, but we know you are smiling at us, we will smile back!

Kiyana was my sweet cousin and she loved to learn, read, and write. She had the best library I could ever have imagined. She loved the show Dallas and her ideas were so creative and thoughtful. She was such a beautiful woman inside and out. It was a privilege to be apart of the same bloodline.

My Beautiful great-niece.  I am devastated to know that you are no longer on this earth, because You made this earth a better place to live in with your presence.  I know your body is gone, but I still feel your beautiful spirit.  When I read your poems and stories, I feel the connection from me to you to the Angels.  I know you are up in Heaven now, guarding and tending the animals.  You are a shepherdess, and now Heaven is all the better with you there.  I love you, and you will forever be in my heart.
