He will reconnect in Heaven with his loving wife, Emma “Boots” Riley, better known by her grandchildren as “Lila”, who he married on October 25, 1957; his parents, Emmett and Erma (Smiley) Riley, his siblings, James “Jimmy” Riley, Dorothy (Riley) Dearing, and Harry Riley, his best friend Allan “Pete” Petermeier and his many other friends, colleagues, and beloved pets.
He served 9 years enlisted in what he called the “Regular” Army, then went onto serve in the Army Civil Service at Ft. Bragg in Fayetteville, North Carolina until the early 1970’s, and finally transferred to Air Force Civil Service at Kelly Air Force Base in San Antonio, working in the Tempest Division on Security Hill until his retirement in 1985. He then worked in the private sector for Honeywell for approximately five years until he officially retired. He later went on to help his son get his company, BAISH Electric, up and running. Even though he only worked there for four years, Vann will argue that it was his father’s favorite job.
Ken was a longtime member of the Universal City Lions Club where he served as President of the local chapter and District 2-A2 Governor.
He loved pheasant hunting with his brother Bobby up north, summer beach trips with his family in North Carolina, “guy time” at the deer lease with Pete and Frank, watching old westerns, and eating any foods with high calorie and even higher sodium counts. Above all else, he loved his family with his whole heart and more.
He is survived by his siblings Robert “Bobby” Riley, and Karolyn (Riley) Thomas of Missouri; son Eddie Riley and wife Teresa of Fayetteville, NC, daughter Linda “Bunny” (Riley) Powers and husband W.C. of Fayetteville, NC, daughter Debbie (Riley) McCollum and husband Michael of Boerne, and son Vann Riley and wife Kathy of Garden Ridge; 8 grandchildren adored their “PaKen”, Ryan Riley (Sylvia), Spring Midyette; Amanda Powers Jones (Tim), Rachel Powers; Casey McCollum; Bailey, Shelby, and Logan Riley; 2 great-granddaughters, Lila and Finley Jones; and many nieces, nephews and extended family in Missouri.
He lived a long, happy life surrounded by people who loved him deeply. The family is very grateful for the additional love and care Mary Esther gave him during his last few months here with us.
A memorial service will be held on Wednesday, September 16, 2015 at 6:30 pm at the Colonial Funeral Home in Universal City.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to the American Cancer Society, Roy Maas’ Youth Alternatives, or your local Lions Club.
