Juan Jose Guerra of Wichita Falls TX, passed away on Friday, May 6, 2016. Visitation services will be held on Thursday, May 12, 2016 from 5pm-9pm at Colonial Funeral Home in Universal City, TX. A graveside service and burial will be on Friday, May 13, 2016 at 10:45am at Fort Sam Houston National Cemetery.
Juan was born in Freer, TX on February 17, 1953 to Pedro and Maria Anita Guerra. He was the seventh of eight children. Juan joined the United States Air Force in March 1973. Shortly after his enlistment, he welcomed his first son Joey Guerra, while stationed in California. He then moved to San Antonio, TX and was stationed at Randolph AFB. Five years later, he welcomed his second son David Guerra. Juan married Patricia Scheetz on September 1982 and gained a daughter, Cindy. He was stationed overseas at Ramstein AFB in Germany for four years. He served his country with honor, earning several medals and commendations. He returned to the United States four years later and settled in Brownwood, TX, as an Air Force Recruiter. He distinguished himself in this field by earning the “Texas Recruiter of the Year Award” for the top NPS recruiter in the state of Texas from all services, Army, Navy, Air Force, and Marines. After serving over 21years in the United States Air Force and earning the rank of Master Sargent (MSGT), he retired honorably in 1993. He then worked in the private sector and was Vice President of Operations for Spencer Reed Medical Group. Always an avid reader, writer, and learner, he continued his higher education by obtaining a Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration from Northwood University in 1992 and also achieved a Master’s Degree in Business Administration from Lindenwood University in 2001. After a successful career in business, Juan finally retired so he could spend time with his family and begin missionary work with his wife, serving God, by spreading His word and introducing new people to God’s love. He devoted his time to care for his wife, Pat, who battled ALS for five years. He dedicated his life to God, to his wife, and to helping others.
He is survived by his sons Jose Alberto Guerra (Priscilla), William David Guerra (Denise) and daughter Cindy Lehman (Jack). His grandchildren, Brandon, Jared David Guerra, Jacqueline, Julia, and Cory Guerra and Josh, Jessie, and Justin Lehman. He is also survived by his brothers Vicente, Pedro, Gilbert, Raymond and Tony Guerra and sister Evangelina Alaniz, along with numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his wife of 34 years Pat Guerra, his sister Maria Anita Arrendondo, and parents Pedro and Maria Anita Guerra.
