Jerry Ayako Hunter, age 85, of Live Oak, Texas passed away on Thursday August 8, 2019. Jerry was born on November 17, 1933 in Izena-son, Okinawa as Ayako Nakada. She met Special Forces, Sgt. David William Hunter while working at the Base Exchange in Okinawa, Japan. They married on March 11, 1960 and Jerry received a Certificate of Nationalization as Jerry Ayako Hunter on March 13, 1968. Living the military life with David, they moved around to different military bases and finally retired in San Antonio, Texas. Being a devout Christian, Jerry attended Eisenhauer Road Baptist Church where she was a member there for 45 years. She was very active in the ministry of the church and her Japanese Mission group. She was a Proverbs 31 woman. Jerry was very strong willed, very loving and kind and the foundation of our family. She kept close ties with her brother, Masanobu Nakada, and her two sisters, Yoshie Uema and Schizuko Nakasone in Okinawa and would visit them often. Jerry was survived by her three children, David Jr., Diane and Stella, four grandchildren and two great grandchildren. She had the biggest heart and will be truly missed by all those who knew her.
A funeral service for Jerry will be held Thursday, August 22, 2019 from 11:30 AM to 12:30 PM at Eisenhauer Road Baptist Church, 3950 Eisenhauer Rd, San Antonio, TX 78218. Following the funeral service will be a committal service from 1:00 PM to 1:30 PM at Ft Sam Houston National Cemetery, 1520 Harry Wurzbach Rd., San Antonio, TX 78209.
