Janie Vernelle Leonhardt died peacefully on Tuesday, April 25, 2023 at the age of 72. She was born September 2, 1950 in Kirby, Texas to Eugene A.H. Leonhardt and Malinda Hauptreif Leonhardt. Janie lived her entire life in her family home in Kirby, TX. She graduated from Judson High School and briefly attended Texas Women’s University in Denton, Texas. She received a business certification from Parrish-Draughon’s Business College and was a long-time employee of the Richter’s ButterKrust/Colonial Cakes Bakery and later of the Judson Independent School District Cafeteria Services. Janie served as the primary care-giver over fifteen years for her mother and father in their later years. She was active in organizations including the Kirby Hermann Sons and Lord of Life Lutheran Church.
Janie loved being an Aunt and was a special friend to many. She deeply cared about extended family members and friends and had a special relationship with her nieces and nephews. She had an incredible memory, strong Christian faith, and great skill for making delicious baked goods which she shared with family and friends. Janie was as an honest, forthright and faith-filled Christian woman who touched many throughout her life journey.
She was preceded in death by her parents. Janie is survived by her sister, Glenda Brady with husband Dan Brady and their children, Kathryn Brady and Ross Brady; sister, Karen Boenig with husband Jim Boenig and their children, Meghan Wilcox (husband-Josh), Jessica Miller (husband-Dwayne) and Amy Boenig; and brother, Curtis Leonhardt with wife Denise Phelan Leonhardt and their children, Taylor Leonhardt and Cullen Leonhardt and one grandnephew, Dwayne Miller III.
Visitation will be on Friday, May 19, 2023 at Colonial Funeral Home from 4:00 PM to 8:00 PM. Funeral Services will be held on Saturday, May 20, 2023 at 11 AM at Colonial Funeral Home with interment to follow at Bueche Cemetery in Windcrest, TX. A reception will be held during the visitation on May 19. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society at givenow.lls.org in honor of Janie.
