MSgt. James Jesse Roberts, U.S. Air Force Retired, age 84, of Live Oak, Texas passed away on Monday January 27, 2020. James was born January 6, 1936 at Fort Sam Houston in San Antonio where he met the love of his life, Lila Jean May, at a dance on August 22, 1954. He enlisted in the US Air Force on October 17, 1955 and worked in Base Air Operations throughout his military career which included assignments in Waco, TX (4 yrs), Panama (2 yrs), Langley AFB, VA (3 yrs), Philippines (1 yr), Travis AFB, CA (2 yrs), Hickam AFB, HI (5 yrs), and then Randolph AFB, TX (3 yrs) before retiring as a Master Sergeant in October 1975. His civilian career included 7 years as a Production Manager at K.O. Steel Castings and 23 years of advancing responsibilities with Sherwin Williams, from which he retired in 2006.
Jim's primary interests were his family and Christian faith. He was a great example of a loving husband and father who was immensely proud and supportive of all of his children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren. His other interests were reading, following the San Antonio Spurs, and his Irish heritage.
Jim is survived by his wife of 64 years, Lila Jean; four sons, Larry (+wife Teresa), Michael (+wife Jean), Kenneth (+wife Sandi), and Brian (+wife Maureen); brother Joseph; and sister Cheryl, plus countless grandchildren and great grandchildren.
A visitation for James will be held Wednesday, January 29, 2020 from 5:00 PM to 9:00 PM at Colonial Funeral Home, 625 Kitty Hawk Rd, Universal City, Texas 78148. A funeral service will occur Thursday, January 30, 2020 at 1:00 PM at First Baptist Church of Universal City, 1401 Pat Booker Road, Universal City, Texas. A committal service will occur Monday, February 3, 2020 from 10:45 AM to 11:15 AM at Ft Sam Houston National Cemetery, 1520 Harry Wurzbach Rd, San Antonio, TX 78209.
