Jacob Victor Pope Jr. went to be with the Lord on April 9, 2023 at the age of 80. Jacob was born to Lois and Jacob Pope Sr., in Houston Texas on September 13, 1942. He was married to Barbara Diesing Pope for 57 years.
Jacob graduated from Highlands High School and then received his Bachelor of Arts from Saint Mary’s University at San Antonio. Jacob spent 25 years teaching Fine Arts at Judson High school in Converse Texas, ultimately retiring as the Fine Arts coordinator. Jacob was instrumental in helping design the “Diamond J” currently used by Judson High School. Jacob used those years to enjoy his passions of family, Texas coast fishing, canoeing, and golf. Jacob also enjoyed his many classic cars and four-wheel off-roading in his 1968 International Harvester Scout and Toyota Tacoma. Jacob was an accomplished potter and oil painter in the San Antonio art community. He was a past-member of multiple local art galleries on the San Antonio River Walk, in HemisFair Park and at the San Antonio International Airport. Jacob also taught adult painting techniques at local high schools as part of continuing education classes.
Jacob was preceded in death by parents Jacob Pope Sr. and Lois Wright Pope Sr., sisters Genevieve Miller and Carlene Naylor. His wife Barbara, son Joel Pope and wife Brittany, Daughter Tierza De La Garza and husband Jerry, numerous grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews and sister Pat Pope survive him.
