Frank Anthony Blase, Lt. Col., USAF (RET), born August 4, 1916 in Shenandoah, Pennsylvania, to Anthony Blase and the former Augustine Tempone, died February 18, 2012. A graduate of the US Army Air Corps Pilot Classes of 1944, his service dates encompassed World War II, the Korean War, and the Viet Nam conflict. During that time, he worked as an instructor pilot, an aircraft maintenance supervisor, and served in the office of the IG, but his first love was always flying. He was the recipient of the Bronze Star, WWII Victory Medal, and the Air Force Commendation Medal with three oak leaf clusters. He was preceded in death by his parents, several brothers and sisters, his daughter Robin Perkins, and his wife Mildred, to whom he was devoted throughout their 62 years of marriage. He is survived by his daughter Linda Blase of Dallas, Texas; daughter Ginger Yeater and husband Wayne; grandchildren Lance Grote and wife Yvette, and Lane Grote; and great grandson Keith Grote, all of Victoria, Texas; grandchildren Sam T. Perkins, Matthew Perkins, and Raven Perkins all of LaFayette, Virginia; several nieces and nephews, and many friends, including the Sunday morning brunch bunch. As he joins his beloved wife Mildred, he has “slipped the surly bonds of earth, put out his hand, and touched the face of God.” A funeral service will be held at Colonial Funeral Home on Tuesday, February 28, 2012 at 1:00 P.M. Interment with military honors will follow the service at Fort Sam Houston National Cemetery at 2:45 P.M.
