T/Sgt. Edward A. Johnson U.S.Air Force, Retired (Brother Ed)

Edward A. Johnson, (Brother Ed) age 71, was promoted into glory on Sunday March 27, 2011. He was born January 26, 1940. He is survived by his devoted wife of 45 years and helpmate, Katherine E. Johnson of the home; a son Mark E. Johnson and wife Jennifer of New Braunfels TX, a daughter Amy Gomez and husband Robert of North Richland Hills TX, a daughter Joy Carta and husband Joey of San Antonio TX, and six grandchildren, Kailey, Caitlin, Maeghan, Mark Andrew, Breindel, and Christopher. He served in the United States Air Force from March 1 1961- November 30, 1981. His Character of service-honorable. He was honored with the Small Arms Expert Marksmanship Ribbon, and the Air Force Longevity Service Ribbon with four Bronze Oak Leaf Clusters, the National Defense Service Medal, the Air Force Outstanding Unit Award, the Air Force Good Conduct Medal with four Bronze Oak Leaf Clusters, the Air Force Commendation Medal with one Bronze Oak Leaf Cluster and the Meritorious Service Medal. He loved his country. He was an Elder of Grace Bible Chapel of San Antonio. He worked for CJF Ministries where he was the Director of Radio Network Operations. He was never too busy to talk to an associate, an employee, or a friend by phone. He would go to the side of anyone who needed his help; he was a friend indeed, and will be missed by all who knew and loved him. He proclaimed the truth found in Romans 1:16, on which he based his life and ministry:”For I am not ashamed of the gospel of Christ, for it is the power of God to salvation for everyone who believes, for the Jew first and also for the Greek.” He loved the Jews and always liked this little poem: How odd of God to choose the Jew, but not so odd as those who choose the Jewish God and hate the Jew. His favorite bible verse was,” Who has ascended into heaven or descended? Who has gathered the wind in his fists? Who has bound the waters in a garment? Who has established all the ends of the Earth? What is his name, and what is his Son’s name. If you know?” Proverbs 30:4 Lowly his lot on Earth; but he who bore tidings of grace and blessings to the poor, gave him, his truth and faithfulness to prove, the choicest pleasures of his boundless love; faith, that dispelled afflictions darkest gloom; hope, that could cheer the passage to the tomb; peace, that filled the soul with heavenly joy. Death of its sting disarmed, he knew no fear, but tasted heaven even while he lingered here. Oh, happy saint, may we, like him be blest-in life be faithful, and in death find rest. A visitation will be held Monday April 4, 2011 at Colonial Funeral Home from 6:00 PM until 8:00 PM. A funeral service will be held Tuesday April 5 at Colonial Funeral Home at 11:00 AM with interment following at Fort Sam Houston National Cemetery with full military honors.
