M/Sgt. Donald J. Smith, U.S. Air Force, Retired, age 78 passed away May 24, 2013. He was born March 28, 1935 in La Crosse, Wisconsin to Josiah Bennett and Luella (Prise) Smith. He was a life member of the Air Force Sergeants Association and was selected the association’s man of year in 1970. Donald was well known in the San Antonio and surrounding areas as “Chimesmith”. He is preceded in death by his parents; son, M/Sgt. Steven Smith, USAF Retired; brother, Richard Smith. Survivors include his loving wife of 56 years, Margaret Smith; daughter, Virginia Smith and C.J.; granddaughters, Jasmine Clark and her husband Matthew, Ashlee, Kimberly and Jeremy, and Grace; great granddaughters, Faith Ann and Kaiyah; sisters, Carol Bruring and Jeannie Volkenant; brothers, Bob Smith, Jim Smith, Joe Smith, and William Smith; numerous nieces and nephews. Graveside services and interment will be Wednesday, June 5, 2013 at 11:00 A.M. at Fort Sam Houston National Cemetery with full military honors
