Donald Lee “Don” Combs passed away on May 4th, 2016 at the age of 77. He was born in East St. Louis, Illinois on February 2nd, 1939 to George Woodrow and Lucille Corinne (McElligott) Combs. He served in the United States Air Force for over 30 years and retired in the grade of Chief Master Sergeant, the highest enlisted grade. While on active duty, Mr. Combs served in numerous assignments including overseas tours to Libya, Japan, Germany, Greece and Hawaii. While serving in Japan he met Chika Kashi and they were married in 1962. After completing his military career, Mr. Combs continued in Civil Service at Randolph Air Force Base, TX. Mr. Combs has traveled all around the world and has been on 117 trans-Atlantic and trans-Pacific cruises to both Europe and Asia. Mr. Combs was preceded in death by his parents; brothers, Leroy James and Harold Ray Combs; and 2 brothers-in-law. He is survived by his loving wife of 53 years, Chika Combs; son, David Combs; brothers, George Combs and his spouse Janet, Norman Combs and his spouse Pat, and Kenneth Combs; uncle, Francis McElligott; aunt, Mary McElligott; 10 nieces and nephews; 4 brothers in law and many friends. The Combs Family will receive friends on Wednesday, May 11, 2016 from 10am to 12pm at Colonial Funeral Home. We will depart Colonial Funeral Home at 12:15pm to Fort Sam Houston National Cemetery for a Graveside Service with Honors. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that you donate to the American Cancer Society or a charity of your choice.
