Cesar A. Lopez, MD, FACS, COL, USA, MC (Ret.) died on Tuesday, August 21, 2018. He was born April 13, 1926 in the Dominican Republic and graduated from Santo Domingo University Medical School, Dominican Republic, August 1948. After completing an Internship and Residency in General Surgery, Residency in Urology and Residency in Pathology in New York City, he joined the U.S. Army in June 1956. A Diplomate of the American Board of Urology and Fellow of the American College of Surgeons, he held several clinical and administrative positions in the U.S. Army, and was a hospital commander in Vietnam. Among his military awards are the Legion of Merit with oak leaf cluster, Army Commendation Medal, National Defense Service Medal, Korea Defense Service Medal, Republic of Vietnam Service Medal, Republic of Vietnam Campaign Medal and Republic of Vietnam Civil Action Medal. He retired from the U.S. Army in December 1979. From January 1980 to July 1998 he worked at the Reid Health Services Clinic, Wilford Hall Medical Center, Lackland Air Force Base.
He was predeceased by his wife Jennifer Ann Lopez, a British nurse he met when he sustained an injury in Nice, France and was admitted to a British hospital where she worked. He is survived by his children, Teresa Lopez of Lakewood, Colorado, Lilia King (husband Robin) of Comfort, Texas, Melissa Williams (husband Kelly) of Boerne, Texas, and Daniel Lopez (wife Gina) of San Antonio, Texas, brother Dr. Rafael Lopez M.D. (wife Noris) of New York, New York, 6 grandchildren, Avery and Roky King, Emily and Erin Williams, Zoe and Ada Lopez, and 2 great grandchildren Aiden and Asher King.
Burial Service will be private at Fort Sam Houston National Cemetery. Memorial Service will be on Friday, September 7, 2018 at 11:30 a.m. at the Betty Cheever Memorial Chapel, The Army Residence Community, 7400 Crestway, San Antonio, TX.
