Catherine Troberman (aka Kaye) passed away on January 16, 2021 with her devoted daughter and constant companion for the past 16 years by her side along with her only son. She was 99 years old.
Kaye was born in Rumford Maine on October 8, 1921. Kaye had eight siblings and many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Harold, and her granddaughter Amy. All of her siblings preceded her in death. Kaye is survived by five children, nine grandchildren, and 25 great grandchildren.
As a young girl, Kaye grew up in Rumford Maine and went away to Gorham Teachers College as a teenager and became a teacher. She was a gifted teacher - one of those special teachers that students still contacted throughout her life. Like many people only hope to do – Kaye made a difference. Her creative and active mind and intuition placed her among the great teachers in life. She taught at Randolph Elementary on Randolph AFB, Texas, for 20 years.
After she married her husband, a career Air Force officer, she began her journey as an Air Force wife - travelling to many places to include Bermuda and Hawaii. She was busy raising her children but found time to write for newspapers along the way. She was a talented writer. She was still writing about residents in her senior apartment complex into her 90s. Kaye also loved to play bridge and continued playing bridge until just a few years ago.
Kaye was a creative talent throughout her life. Kaye was so perceptive and had the unique ability to know what you were feeling and often your thoughts. She had impeccable taste. Kaye took great pride in her home and in her appearance and was always dressed beautifully. Kaye had a wonderful sense of humor and quick wit. She loved music and dancing. She was listening to country music up until the day she died.
Kaye often shared her early memories of dancing until dawn in the summer near her family summer home on Rangeley Lake in Maine. She so enjoyed her time as a young teacher in the 1940s living in Cape Cod Massachusetts.
Kaye raised her five children moving from base to base as an Air Force wife and in the early 1970s returned to teaching in Texas after her husband retired from the Air Force.
Kaye was a unique and fascinating woman – beautiful, intelligent, talented and creative. She was loved.
A memorial service will be held on Friday June 4, 2021 at 10:30 am at Fort Sam Houston National Cemetery, Committal Shelter # 3.
