Brett Alan Tulloss, age 58 of Universal City TX, was born in San Antonio, Texas on April 29, 1964, rounded third base and slid safely across home plate on August 21, 2022. He was preceded in death by his father M/Sgt. Robert (Bob) Tulloss and his mother Edith (Edie) Hackler Tulloss. He leaves behind many Aunts, Uncles and Cousins from both sides of his family, as well as their extended families. He also leaves his two best friends, Allen Furlow and John Schlather. Together they shared exploits throughout Brett’s lifetime.
Brett was diagnosed early in life with Emery-Driefuss Muscular Dystrophy. With an unyielding commitment from his parents pushing him to overcome this obstacle, Brett refused to let the disease get in the way of living his life to the fullest. Brett enjoyed swimming, learning computer programs, sports discussions, and going to live concerts. While he could not actively participate in middle and high school sports, he found a way to support his buddies by acting as manager of various athletic teams. He followed the San Antonio Spurs, Texas Rangers and the Washington Redskins as well as the North Texas Mean Green (Eagles) and the Rockwall High School Yellowjackets baseball team. Brett could hold his own discussing virtually any sport and athlete - high school, college, and professional. However, with his friends, he would argue about any topic at hand mainly to get a reaction from his conversational competition; this was among his favorite sports.
Brett attended schools in the Schertz-Cibolo-Universal City Independent School District and graduated from Samuel Clemens High School in 1982. After graduation, following his love of sports, he majored in Journalism, attending Southwest Texas State University, San Antonio College, and later transferring to the University of North Texas.
Remaining in the Dallas/Fort Worth area, and using his sports knowledge and writing skills, Brett worked as a freelance journalist for several local papers, winning multiple awards for his stories and editorials. His engaging, optimistic personality allowed Brett to make many friends of coaches and athletes he covered over the years. Brett’s encyclopedic knowledge of sports – more importantly his enjoyment watching people develop in their respective sports and lives - represented the core of his existence.
Brett will be remembered for his generosity to, support for, and friendship with those he knew. To quote Brett Tulloss’ philosophy, “Make your own way, never give up!”
Brett will be remembered along with his Mother, Edith Tulloss, at the Universal City United Methodist Church service on September 6th, Noon - 1pm.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Muscular Dystrophy Association, 8401 Datapoint Dr., #1002, San Antonio, TX 78229.
