She moved with her family to Brea, California as a three month old baby. The family later moved to Los Angeles, California where she grew up. She graduated from Los Angeles City College in 1940, and soon began a career as an Executive Secretary in Alcoa. She married Ronald E. Dunlap on December 14, 1941 just as WWII was beginning. Together they travelled the world during his 32 years of military service, and retired to Garden Ridge, Texas in 1972.
She is preceded in death by her parents Launce and Ellen Underwood, her sister Barbara Buss, and by the love of her life Col. Ronald E. Dunlap. She is survived by her children, Ronald E. Dunlap Jr. (Jayne), Tom Dunlap (Cindy Lee), David Dunlap (Cindy Ann); her six grandchildren, Lt. Col. Ronald E. “Tike” Dunlap III (Holly), Catie Cabe, Travis Dunlap, Craig Dunlap, Douglas Dunlap and Sarah Dunlap; four great-grandchildren, Jessica Sine, Nicholas Reeves, Elody Dunlap, and Ryleigh Cabe.
She lived her life one day at a time and with full enjoyment of her family and friends. A celebration of her life will be held at the Army Residence Community Chapel on Friday, June 3rd, 2016 at 2:30 p.m. Interment was at Fort Sam Houston National Cemetery with a private ceremony.
