Rose Scecchitano, age 91, of Blacksburg, Virginia passed away on Tuesday November 6, 2018. Rose was born on September 19, 1927 to the late Ferdinando and Nicolina Nazzaro in Jersey City, NJ. She was employed for many years and on two separate occasions by the Dixon-Ticonderoga Pencil Company in Jersey City as a Data Entry Operator. Following the company's closing, she worked several years in a similar role for Bentley Lingerie, also of Jersey City. She was a woman of deep Christian faith who loved being in church and reading her Bible, leaving a strong legacy to her children and family.
Rose enjoyed reading, especially long works of historical fiction. Having been raised on Saturday broadcasts of the Metropolitan Opera, she carried her love of opera into her adult life, and she enjoyed classical and semi-classical music as well as the music of her generation.
Rose was predeceased by her beloved husband of 36 years, Carmelo (Tom) Scecchitano in 1985 and also by her brother, Louis Nazzaro. She leaves behind her adoring children: Bernadette Vissani (Fernando), Joanne Scecchitano and Sal Scecchitano (Deb Lawrence); four grandchildren: Daniel Vissani (Mary), Andrew Vissani (Lupe), Natalie Scecchitano and Alida Scecchitano, and three great-grandchildren: Olivia, Simeon, and Andrew Liam Vissani.
Relatives and friends are invited to visit the McCracken Funeral Home 1500 Morris Ave, Union, NJ 07083 on Sunday November 11, 2018 from 3-7pm. A funeral service will be held at 10am on Monday November 12, 2018 at the Calvary Assembly of God, 242 Shunpike Rd, Springfield Township, NJ 07081, followed by interment in the Holy Cross Cemetery, North Arlington, NJ.
The family wishes to express its sincere thanks and appreciation to the Heritage Hall Nursing Home in Blacksburg VA, Good Samaritan Hospice of Christiansburg VA, the South Mountain Healthcare and Rehabilitation Center in Union NJ and the WISE Senior Adult Daily Program of the YMCA, also in Union.
