John L. Fitzgerald of Hillside, NJ, passed away on Thursday, March 25, at
Trinitas Hospital in Elizabeth, NJ following a brief illness. He was 85 years old.
His wife of forty-seven years, Eleanor, died less than twenty-four hours earlier.
Due to the pandemic, traditional funeral services are not feasible at this time. A
graveside service will take place at 11 AM on Thursday, April 1, 2021 at Holy
Name Cemetery, 823 Westside Avenue, in Jersey City, NJ.
John was born to the late Thomas and Gertrude Kelly Fitzgerald in Jersey City,
NJ. He later moved to Hillside, NJ. John retired in 1994 from Bristol-Myers
Squibb, where he worked for over twenty years in Information Services. Prior to
that, he worked at Westinghouse in Jersey City, NJ and the Navy Yard in
Bayonne, NJ. Since retirement, John kept very active and particularly enjoyed
spending time with his family.
John is survived by his loving children, Christina Rose and John Anthony. He is
also survived by sister-in-law, Clelia Fitzgerald; sister-in-law, Constance “Peggy”
Scala; sister-in-law, Anne Cintron; and sister-in-law and brother-in-law, Arlene
and Anthony Scala. He is also survived by many loving nieces, nephews, and
cousins.
John was predeceased by his brother and sister-in-law, Thomas and Genevieve
Fitzgerald; brothers William “Bill”, and Walter; sister and brother-in-law, Geraldine
and Ed Debicki; and sister and brother-in-law, Margaret and Richard Swarbrick.
John will be dearly missed by his family and friends. In lieu of flowers, please

of your choice.
