She was born on October 11, 1930 in Newark, N.J. to the late Anton and Hermine (née Meisenzahl) Walz.
Charlotte’s early childhood was spent in Irvington before she moved to Union, N.J. in her teen years after graduating from Union High School in 1948. At this time she met Jerome Shaw, Sr. who would later become her husband.
Upon graduation, Charlotte worked for New Jersey Bell Telephone before working as a waitress at various restaurant establishments for the next 30 years.
In 1951, she married her husband Jerome Shaw Sr. while he was serving in the United States Marine Corps; living in California while he was serving, then residing in Union for 48 years before moving to Toms River in 2000. They were married for 49 years until her husband’s death in the year 2000.
She was an active member in her community and was known to volunteer at the Salvation Army, and St. Justin’s Church. She enjoyed spending time in her local Community Center. She enjoyed doing jigsaw puzzles with her family, loved line dancing, and shopping at garage sales and thrift shops.
She loved going to New York, enjoying the many Broadway plays, and traveling in the winters to Florida.
Charlotte is predeceased by her loving husband Jerome Shaw, Sr., and her son Jerome Shaw Jr.
She is survived by her three children Diane Materia (James), Cindy Zieser (Ronald) and Patrick Shaw (Amy) and daughter in-law, Heather Shaw.
She is survived by her 11 grandchildren Deidre Krok(Tom Kraus), Ron Zieser(Kim), Jimmy Materia(Vicky), Matthew Zieser(Danielle), Jacalyn Fowler( TJ), Clayton, Tyler, Trevor, Rebecca, Julia, and Patrick Shaw.
“GiGi” is also survived by her 13 Great Grandchildren : Benjamin, Allison, Andrew, Abigail, Isabella, Olivia, Matthew, Alexis, Thomas, Angelina, Vincent, Gianna, and Gabriella.
She is survived by her Beloved Sisters Doris Mennillo and Marie Sobka.
She is also survived by her many adoring nieces and nephews.
Relatives and friends are invited to visit the McCracken Funeral Home, 1500 Morris Ave, Union, NJ 07083 on Friday, June 28, 2024 from 4:00 PM to 8:00 PM. A funeral prayer service will be held at the Funeral Home on Saturday, June 29, 2024 at 9:30 AM followed by an interment at the Hollywood Memorial Park, 1500 Stuyvesant Ave., Union, NJ 07083.
