North Bergen- William “Billy” Scott Forbes, 66, passed away after a courageous battle with heart failure and complications from a heart transplant on June 28, 2023, surrounded by the love and faith of his wife and family.
Billy was born on April 23, 1957 at Holy Name Hospital in Teaneck and lived the majority of his life in North Bergen. In Billy’s early years, he was an auto mechanic and tow truck driver for his Dad’s family business, Charlie’s Road service, followed by many years working as a diesel mechanic at Beyer Brothers leading to a critical accident that left him blind. Through strength, perseverance, and determination, Billy reclaimed his life with a disability as a husband, a father, brother, coach, and a massage therapist, where he inspired and “touched” so many of our lives.
One of the most influential parts of his life was his marriage to his wife Nancy of 44 years who walked through life by his side. Billy only had eyes for Nancy and loved Nancy, his children and the life they created together more than anything in this world. Billy had a zest for life and spirit in him that would light up a room. Billy enjoyed the little things like listening to music, playing various instruments, eating delicious food and enjoying conversations and laughs with family and friends. Those who knew Billy knew his love for the Yankees, who pitched a perfect game to make the day of his passing go down in Yankee history.
Billy was predeceased by his parents, Charles and Doris Forbes and survived by his wife Nancy Forbes, children, Shanynn Karkowsky and husband Frank, Jesse Forbes and wife Cherish, and Danny Forbes and wife Amber, his grandchildren, Jayden Prina, Grace Karkowsky, Jonah Forbes, and Quentin Forbes, and his siblings Charles Forbes, Sheryl Sessa, Robert “Bobby” Forbes, Thomas Forbes, and Rich Forbes and his Dioguardi brothers and sisters along with many other friends and family.
Billy’s services will be held on Thursday, July 6, 2023 at 10:00am at the Woodcliff Community Reformed Church, 7605 Palisade Ave, in North Bergen. In Lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to The Seeing Eye, an organization that guided Billy throughout life with his 3 seeing eye dogs, Lucy, Gary and Nestor.
